Just
then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up
behind
him and touched the edge of his cloak. She
said to herself,
“If
I only touch his cloak, I will be healed” (Matthew 9:20-21 NLT).
I have polycystic ovaries. One of the symptoms that I
have suffered with is having my menstrual cycle stay on for 1 to 6 months at a
time. I was miserable and tired. There is no peace with an issue like this. I remember waking up and hoping that my cycle
would be off, but it was still on. I could not imagine having this issue during
the time that the woman with the issue of blood lived. We have doctors today
that can prescribe a pill or use some other method to get a woman’s bleeding
under control, but this woman suffered for 12 years. Did she have cramps? Was
she anemic? Was she ever afraid that she would bleed to death? Did she have or
want children? Maybe this woman just wanted to be free. She didn’t think about
what she was missing, she just wanted freedom.
The woman with the issue of blood can also be called
the free woman in my eyes because she actively sought freedom. She did not walk
around in a “poor me” state because she actively sought help. This woman is an encouragement
because she did not give up on her quest to freedom. Perhaps it was hot on the
day that she found Jesus. Maybe she was weak, but she pressed on. This woman had
tried everything but she yet pressed on. She did not count the healing power of
Jesus out. Some of you have decided to not try Jesus, but I encourage you to
follow the example of this woman and not count him out. How can you know God’s
power if you have not tried him. Trust him with your problems.
“Look at the birds of the
air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly
Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable
than they?” (Matthew 6:26
NLT)
It’s one thing to hear about Jesus, but this woman sought
him for herself. She was serious about freedom. How serious are you about
freedom? So many of us are sitting around bleeding in our own way, but yet we
don’t get up and seek help. Why are you afraid to touch Jesus’ cloak? Why do
you feel as if Jesus can heal everybody but you? Freedom is yours but you have
to take it. Be active about your freedom. What are you pursuing in the area of
freedom? Has it worked? Have you tried Jesus? The woman with the issue of blood
did not receive freedom until she sought and grabbed hold of Jesus. When
a person sees them self as free they begin to act differently and do things that
work toward total freedom.
“So if the Son sets you
free, you are truly free” (John 8:36 NLT).
See yourself free and not as outcast that no one can
help. Get up and move no matter how much blood you think that you have lost (no
matter who hurt you, told you negative things about yourself etc.).
Lord I pray to see myself as free. I pray to take hold
of those spiritual things that I cannot see and believe that by faith they will
come to pass. Lord today I receive freedom. In Jesus name. Amen.
