God taught David how to fight. He fought a lot of personal battles before he was strong enough to fight the battles that we know him for today. David had to know how to depend on God in private before he could publicly show us how to depend on Him. David had to fight other people’s opinion of him even up until the moment that he was anointed to be king. Nobody looked at little David and saw a king. When they looked at him, they saw the youngest of 8 sons. They saw a shepard and they might have even seen a punk. I wonder if David’s brothers even knew that he was about that life. Did they know that he had fought and won a battle against a lion? Did they know that he took on a bear? Did they know that he was a prophetic musician and poet who was getting closer to God while they were busy looking the part of a position that they would never fill?
The mistake that some
people make is that they are more concerned with looking the part then they are
with having the heart to fulfill the duties that it will take for them to keep
the part. There are some people who look like preachers, but they are void of
God’s word. There are singers who can move your emotions, but they are not yet
anointed to break yokes off of people’s lives through the spirit of God. There
are some people who are highly educated, but their education is no match to how
God can use an uneducated and obedient servant who has His heart.
Be more consumed with
having God’s heart then you are with merely filling a part. David had God’s
heart. God skipped over the handsomeness of David’s brothers. He did not care
about their height or even their leadership skills. God was looking for a man after
His own heart. What does your heart look like child of God?
Do you discount others because
of what your eyes are showing you? God allowed blessings to flow through a man
that was over looked and picked last. He allowed kings to flow through David.
David wrote poems that inspire people to this very day. David was so blessed
that he and Jesus share a genealogy.
Jesus is the blessing of
those who have God’s heart. David was not after the position of being a king. I’m
sure he was cool with just loving God, but God could and did use him because of
his heart.
Everything that David
encountered publicly, God prepared him for privately. God taught David how to fight.
He could not handle Absalom the same way that he would handle one of his
enemies. He couldn’t just take out Saul, even though Saul wanted to kill him.
God will teach you how to handle those that rise up against you, but you have
to have a heart and a mind to listen to Him.
In the midst of teaching
you how to fight, God will also equip you with weapons such as wisdom. David
had wisdom in the midst of battle. Wisdom and Jesus saved David’s life. His
muscles, his fleshly war tactics, and his relationships could do nothing for him
when his enemies wanted to take him out and steal his position. When your heart
is right with God, the enemy won’t be able to stand up against you no matter
how hard he tries.
I pray for you as you
fight whatever battle you are in at this very moment. I pray that your emotions
and your will line up with Jesus Christ. I pray against anxiety, sleeplessness,
impulsiveness, fear, doubt, and worry in Jesus name. I pray that God will open
your eyes to the weapons that He has equipped you with and I pray that you will
remember that no weapon formed against you shall prosper. I speak peace to your
mind and to your heart in Jesus name. I pray that you will begin to pray strategic
prayers over yourself, your assignment, and your family. I pray that you will
see Jesus like never before and I pray that He is giving you His heart right
now, in Jesus name.
Some battles are not for you
to fight. Rest and know that the battle in the Lords. Be still and allow Him to
be your Savior.
