Today as I was reading a devotional, the writer spoke
of a time in her life when she had to use rocks to see the things that she
could not see. She was a child and so badly wanted to take a peek into a
territory that was not hers, but yet, she and her friends were curious about
what this territory held. One day the writer and her friends discovered some
rocks. The friends gathered the rocks and used them to help them reach their
destination. As I reached the section of the devotional that talked about
rocks, I thought about the fact that the still things have a purpose.
The rocks in your life have a purpose. Those things
that seem to be dead and unmovable come to life when God gives you an idea or
when He gives it a command to move. Unmovable things have a destiny and a plan
to move in its appointed time.
“For
verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou
removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but
shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall
have whatsoever he saith” (Mark 11:23 KJV).
Although you may feel stagnated, challenged, dry,
unfocused, and confused in the place that you are in right now, this season of
your life has a purpose and God will build upon this place. Nothing that you
are experiencing will be wasted. Don’t ever forget that God can command those
still, seeming dead things to move.
“The LORD answered Moses, "Bring
some of the leaders of Israel with you, and go to where the people can see you.
Take the staff you used to strike the Nile River. I'll be standing in front of
you there by a rock at Mount Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of
it for the people to drink." Moses did this while the leaders of Israel watched
him” (Exodus 17:5-6 GWT).
Public hardships come with an audience. God blesses in
public as well as in private. Your situation will cause others to see who God
is. Your faith carries the reward of you being able to see the fullness of God.
You are a public testimony. Don’t forget that God is with you even at a rock!
Don’t lose sight or take for granted those things that
God has already placed in your hands. Moses caused a rock to produce water to quench
the thrust of a multitude by being obedient and using what God had already made
him a steward over. How much more will God cause you to do when you change the
words that are coming out of your mouth. Cause your language to line up with
your blessings. God has already released the blessing, but what is your mouth
saying?
“The
power of the tongue is life and death— those who love to talk will eat what it
produces” (Proverbs 18:21 ISV).
This is not the time to grow weary or quit. Your
blessing is right around the corner, but you must endure this season in order
to reach the next one.
“And
let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint
not” (Galatians 6:9 KJV).
Lord, I thank you that the still things have a purpose.
Please help me to be still in the anticipation of knowing that you will cause
all things to work together for my good in due season. I thank you that you
have not forgotten my name and that you cloth me for every season that I will
encounter in this life. Lord, I thank you for your presence in this place and
thank you for the private promises that you have given me. I pray to not be
afraid of the stillness of this season and I pray to see the purpose of where I
am in due time. Lord, I pray to be ready when you call me out to do what you
have called me to do and I pray to be focused and prepared for destiny. Lord, I
pray that you teach me how to really rest in you. I pray that you will teach me
how to kick my feet up on your spiritual hammock and leave every worry,
trouble, delay, and denial at your feet. No worry exists in your presence. Lord,
I want your presence. In Jesus name, Amen.

Reading: “Take for yourselves twelve men
from the people, one man from every tribe and command them, saying,
‘Take for yourselves twelve stones from here, out of the midst of the Jordan,
from the place where the priests’ feet stood firm. You shall carry them over
with you and leave them in the lodging place where you lodge tonight” (Joshua
4:2-3 NKJV).
"And those twelve stones which they took out of
the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal. Then he spoke to the children of Israel,
saying: “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What
are these stones?' then you shall let your children know, saying, Israel
crossed over this Jordan on dry land’; for the Lord
your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed
over , as the Lord your God did to
the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over, that all
the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that
you may fear the Lord your God
forever” (Joshua 4:20-24 NKJV).
Encouragement: Remember what God has done in
the past. He did not forsake you then and He will not forsake you now. The
stones were a physical reminder of the wonders of who God is and what God does.
Make note of where you are now and keep a reminder of where God said He would
take you. We are to remain faithful no matter what our today is telling us. Israel
is a living testimony of the faithfulness of God. When God gives us a word, a
proclamation, and a promise, He will make it come to pass. Don’t be moved by
the still things in your life.
